STRETCH OR STRENGTHEN?

Have you ever felt that a particular muscle was more tense than usual? A common example is that person who sits all day working, and at the end of the day, the back or the area behind the thigh (hamstring) feels more tense.

After this scenario, many people think they should stretch the muscle to relax, but should they?

The first thing that must be answered is: “Am I training the muscle that I feel the most tense?”. If the answer is no, then it would be interesting to start starting a muscle strengthening program. A muscle that is not strong is closer to suffering pain, strain and injury.

However, imagine that in the previous question your answer was yes. In that case, it will be necessary to analyze whether this muscle is shortened. To check this situation, some simple tests can be performed by an exercise professional, who will analyze the movement of your body and see if the muscle you feel the most tense is also shortened. If this fact is confirmed, then in that case you can benefit from a stretching program.

Faced with this situation, it is important to emphasize that it is necessary to have training to strengthen the entire muscle structure to avoid tension and injuries, which could still happen. But it is necessary to make an analysis and understand why this situation occurs, so that a procedure is carried out that meets the needs of the person in question in order to improve all their physical capacity.
